A Rainbow of Diamonds

Jewelry designer Sharon Khazzam spent a few years amassing the unusual fancy colored diamonds for her latest necklace featuring 111 diamonds, each in a different shape, color, and size. “This necklace takes the intimidation out of colored diamonds,” says the New York-based artist, referring to the fact that rare, colored diamonds are typically set in more classic designs because of their high value. “It’s feminine with a sense of whimsy.” Like each of her one-of-a-kind creations, the designer infuses unexpected elements into the design, such as the black diamond dice and a small sea shell she discovered in the Caribbean. Still, the $532,000 necklace features some rare specimens such as a chameleon diamond that changes color in different light, and bright orange, green, and blue stones.
