Beauty and the Bridge

Like other pieces in the latest jewelry collection from Mallary Marks (www.mallarymarksny.com), this Kaleidoscope scarf necklace ($24,950) comprises dozens of interlocking 18-karat-gold circles linked by gemstone beads. In this case, the gemstones are emeralds and aquamarines. The soft, mesh-like structures of the collection’s jewelry were inspired by the Queensboro Bridge in Manhattan. Marks was fascinated by the play of light and shadows through the cantilever structure, which she describes as “metal lacework.” The pieces, which are made by Marks and two goldsmiths in the designer’s Brooklyn workshop, range from $1,000 earrings to $40,000 gem-encrusted necklaces.
