The Taiwanese jewelry artist Cindy Chao has partnered with the actor Sarah Jessica Parker to create an exclusive brooch for auction at Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite Sale on October 7 in Hong Kong. This artistic collaboration, Chao’s first with an individual, comes as this year’s entry in her annual Black Label Masterpiece Butterfly series, which signifies her personal metamorphosis as an artist. Called the Ballerina Butterfly, it has a trim body and carefully turned legs that call to mind the graceful movements of a dancer. The brooch is made up of a 26.27-carat fancy brown-yellow diamond, 47.70 carats of rough brown diamond slices, and vibrant pink conch pearls. Tiny fancy-colored diamonds line the edges of the butterfly’s wings and span their width. The piece’s estimated worth is between $750,000 and $950,000. Proceeds from its sale will benefit the New York City Ballet. (212.606.7000, www.sothebys.com)
