Spread across three basement-level floors of a new 15-story, 78-room hotel, Espa at the Istanbul Edition (+90.212.317.7700, www.editionhotels.com) opened in March 2011 in the bustling residential district of Levent. Adorned with woven-horsehair wall coverings and bronze-and-leather flooring, the 20,000-square-foot spa includes an indoor swimming pool, 10 treatment rooms, a VIP suite, whirlpools, a snow cabin, and a rock sauna, plus a striking contemporary hammam in chocolate-brown Italian marble. Attendants employ hammam techniques utilized for generations, and Espa enhances the Turkish ritual by educating therapists in anatomy and physiology and introducing them to salt-and-oil scrubs, hot stones, and other international modalities. Treatments range from a 20-minute scrub for $42 to the 150-minute Turkish Indulgence for about $300. Instead of a specific treatment, time can be booked in the VIP suite or in the hammam in two- and three-hour blocks, during which therapists address clients’ immediate needs through customized facials and bodywork.
