Cornerstone Colorado

<< Back to Robb Report, 21st Annual Best of the Best

Greg Norman has called Cornerstone Colorado (877.855.7273, www.cornerstonecolorado.com) the best mountain golf course in the world. His may not be the most objective opinion—Norman designed the course—but golfers who play this nearly 8,000-yard-long track on Colorado’s Uncompahgre Plateau might concur with its creator.

Norman’s layout is the centerpiece of the 6,000-acre Cornerstone Colorado resort community, located 45 miles north of Telluride at an altitude of about 9,000 feet. The aspen-lined front nine at Cornerstone debuted in 2007, but the club saved its better half for last: Opened in summer 2008, the back nine plays along a treeless expanse of the plateau and offers a sweeping vista that encompasses such geological wonders as the Grand Mesa, the pinnacles of Cimarron Ridge, and the 14,150-foot-high Mount Sneffels in the San Juan Mountains.

In addition to the course, Cornerstone Colorado includes 412 homesites, two fishing ponds, hiking and equestrian trails, and a 20-acre golf-practice facility.
