Best Of The Best 2006: Yellowstone Club

Accolades are not unfamiliar to the Yellowstone Club. Last June, the Big Sky, Mont., mountain retreat—the world’s only private ski and golf community—earned Robb Report’s Best of the Best honors for the second consecutive year. This exclusive enclave on more than 13,000 acres again receives our award in part because it added a third lodge, which opened in December 2005.

The new Warren Miller Lodge (named for the winter-sport filmmaker who also manages the club’s 2,200-acre ski area) is a social hub for the intimate, family-oriented community. The 140,000-square-foot timber-and-stone structure, set near the base of the Pioneer Mountain ski area, features a dining room with soaring ceilings and antique chandeliers, as well as an adjacent alcove and bar. The lodge’s retail shop and ski-tuning outfit are open now, and a fitness facility, concierge service, and Champagne and caviar bar are forthcoming. The residential space within the complex consists of 21 condominiums, which range from one to five bedrooms (969 to 3,684 square feet) and offer ski-in/ski-out access and proximity to the lodge’s amenities.

Although the condominiums already have been sold, other Yellowstone residences are available. Sales will begin this summer for the new Sunrise Ridge triplexes, which measure 2,950 to 3,200 square feet, and Enclave at Miller Pointe slope-side duplexes, ranging from 4,740 to 5,100 square feet, will be for sale late this year. (Pricing was not available at press time.) Also offered are homesites (beginning at $2.2 million for a two-acre lot and $9.5 million for a 160-acre ranch site) and custom homes (from $6.25 million).

Membership at Yellowstone Club requires a deposit of $250,000 and is by invitation only. The club currently has approximately 250 members and plans to cap the total at 864. This minimal number of residents should ensure that the community’s sporting sites—including Pioneer Mountain for skiing, a private stretch of the Gallatin River for fly-fishing, an 18-hole golf course designed by Tom Weiskopf (a Yellowstone member himself), and even the fitness facility in the Warren Miller Lodge—remain crowd-free.
