The Dandy’s Brilliant Comeback: All Sewed Up

William Kissel

LODGING
The recently renovated, five-star hotel The Connaught (+44.20.7499.7070, www.the-connaught.co.uk) offers residential-style suites attended by private butlers, who can design shopping excursions or make en-suite appointments with Savile Row tailors. A little more under the radar is the Chesterfield Mayfair (+44.20.7491.2622, www.chesterfieldmayfair.com), a chic hideaway that has Savile Row clients in mind: Many of the rooms are decorated in gray flannel pinstripes and other suit fabrics. Both hotels are within walking distance of Savile Row and of Bond Street (for designer shops), Conduit Street (for women’s wear), and Jermyn and St. James’s Streets (for men’s accessories).

COCKTAILS
Sartoria (+44.20.7534.7000, www.sartoria-restaurant.co.uk), located on Savile Row and identifiable by its four-hole button logo, is Sir Terence Conran’s homage to the street’s identity. The bar is modern and, well, sartorial, with tailored white tablecloths, dark wood, and chic accents. A Negroni or a Savile Row Sling makes a fine match for the bar’s stuzzichini (Italian appetizers).

DINING
Since its acquisition by Nick Jones of Soho House, Cecconi’s Mayfair (+44.20.7434.1500, www.cecconis.co.uk) has been reinvigorated by a style-conscious international set and the British upper class. The menu is traditional Venetian, the room glamorous, and the atmosphere lively—altogether the natural habitat of a bespoke-suit-wearing society. For something more off the cuff, follow the Savile Row tailors to Patterson’s (+44.20.7499.1308, www.pattersonsrestaurant.co.uk), a modern pub serving a "root-to-table" menu, including fresh diver scallops from the Outer Hebrides and longhorn beef from Huntsham Farm in Wye Valley. Otherwise, notes Henry Poole managing director Simon Cundey, "You’ll find us at the Windmill (+44.20.7491.8050, www.windmillmayfair.co.uk), which has lovely fish and shepherd’s pie." rel="nofollow"
