Best Of The Best 2006: Land Of Plenty
The list of planned facilities at Saguaro Ranch is staggering: a 10,000-square-foot spa with eight treatment rooms and a fitness center; a 116-seat indoor theater and an outdoor amphitheater; a recording studio; restaurants; three swimming pools; a full-service horse ranch with live-in ranch hands, a riding arena, and a loping track; 25 miles of hiking and biking paths; courts for tennis, beach volleyball, boccie, and basketball; an art barn where visiting artists can teach classes; an organic farm; 28 casitas for owners’ guests; a general store; and a post office.
But while amenities at this development outside Tucson, Ariz., may be abundant, homesites are not. The 1,035-acre Saguaro Ranch community, located 15 miles north of town and surrounded by five mountain ranges, is offering just 180 sites for sale. The developers plan to leave 80 percent of the land untouched, and they will encourage residents to build houses low to the ground, using such materials as adobe, native rock, and stucco. Approximately 30 percent of the homesites, which begin at $1.25 million, have been sold, and the development should be completed by 2009.
