Following renovations after the devastation caused by tropical cyclone Winston in February 2016, the Jean-Míchel Cousteau Resort in Fiji is set to reopen September 1 with a new dedicated spa, refreshed interiors and furnishings, an expanded pier, updated swimming pools, and other enhancements. Set on a former coconut plantation on the island of Vanua Levu, the all-inclusive, 17-acre resort accommodates guests in 25 lavish bures (traditional Fijian thatched houses)—equipped with deluxe king beds, large baths, and private decks—overlooking the breathtaking Savusavu Bay.

Positively swimming in activities, the resort provides guests with plenty of ways to unwind, such as private yoga sessions or relaxing spa treatments using “Nui Health Fiji” (pure virgin coconut oil harvested by the people of Wailevu Village). Guests can also try something a bit more adventurous, like sailing, snorkeling, or paddle boarding. After a day of exploring the island’s offerings, visitors can recharge with a meal of locally sourced Fijian cuisine and Asian-inspired dishes served al fresco at the resort’s restaurant helmed by chef Raymond Lee. Nightly rates start from about $1,000. (fijiresort.com
