Front Runners December 2015: Fantasy Camp
The debut of Singita Ebony Lodge (singita.com) in 1993 forever changed the face of the African safari, bringing a high-style, low-volume formula to South Africa’s Sabi Sand Reserve. More than 20 years later, Singita is unveiling a new look for its pioneering lodge. Designed by Boyd Ferguson—formerly of the firm Cécile and Boyd—the camp reopened in June with a contemporary style that blends modernized campaign furnishings with bold patterns and fabrics. In the 12 cantilevered suites, walls have been replaced with canvas and glass, allowing for seamless vistas of the surrounding savanna and Sand River. Guests can expect Big Five encounters whether exploring Singita’s 45,000-acre reserve on game drives or lounging on their suite’s private deck. Following a day in the bush, relaxation comes in the form of bonfire wine tastings and lantern-lit dinners under the stars.
