FrontRunners: Crans Ambassador

<< Back to Robb Report, January 2014

The Crans Ambassador (www.cransambassador.ch) debuted in the Swiss Alps ski town of Crans-Montana in the early 1970s with an unorthodox design—a jumbo chalet with a silhouette mirroring the Dents du Midi mountains—that was considered revolutionary at the time. While its peaked facade remains in place, the ski-in/ski-out resort is otherwise unrecognizable following a renovation that shuttered the property for nearly six years. Reopened in June, the hotel features 60 sleek new rooms, many with spacious larch balconies that overlook the slopes. Après-ski venues include a lounge outfitted with plaid sofas; a cozy stübli designed for sipping Valaisian wines; and a subterranean spa with a glass-enclosed pool.
