FrontRunners: Elbow Rooms

<< Back to Robb Report, September 2005

Set high on a hillside, the main house at Elbow Beach Bermuda (441.236.3535, www .mandarinoriental.com) affords views of rugged rock formations and the island’s famous pink-sand beaches. But for the past few years, the focal points at this 50-acre, Mandarin Oriental– managed resort have been the low-slung accommodations closer to the beach. As part of a three-phase renovation, 55 of these cottage-style units have been transformed into contemporary spaces with Balinese furnishings, bleached ash wood floors, limestone bathrooms, and 32-inch LCD TVs. The rooms include lanais with daybeds from which to enjoy the avian activity in the surrounding gardens and the turquoise surf crashing on the pink sands below. The resort’s new Spa at Elbow, which contains six ocean-view treatment rooms and no communal areas, offers a similar sense of privacy. Renovations to the remaining guest rooms are forthcoming in 2006.
