FrontRunners: Jumby-Size Retreat

<< Back to Robb Report, October 2004

Of all the private island resorts in the world, perhaps the highest name recognition belongs to Jumby Bay (268.462.6000, www.jumbybayresort.com), if only because the island was home to that 1980s television show host who signed off each week with “champagne wishes and caviar dreams.” The island hideaway off the coast of Antigua is now managed by Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, which performed a cash transfusion in 2002 and has returned the property to the level of elegance it enjoyed in its previous heyday.

For those who enjoy their privacy, the resort now offers four estate homes, each with its own pool and either beachfront or tropical garden acreage. The residences range in size from four to six bedrooms, and the daily rate ($6,500 to $12,000 in the winter season) includes the services of a personal chef and housekeeper and use of the facilities at the resort.
