FrontRunners: Villa With A View

  • Karen Cakebread

Monaco's Villa La Vigie, which at various times was home to Karl Lagerfeld and to Princess Caroline, is now available for weekly, monthly, or year-round rental. From its prominent promontory perch, the three-story, elegantly furnished villa overlooks the Monte-Carlo Beach Hotel, with views beyond to Monte Carlo and the Mediterranean. The Société des Bains de Mer (SBM), which owns and operates many of Monaco’s resort properties, now owns the villa. Rental arrangements are offered through John Taylor & Son (+377.93.50.30.70).

Should a suite suffice, SBM (800.221. 4708, www.montecarloresort.com) has two other new offerings. The Monte-Carlo Beach Hotel, at the edge of the principality and adjacent to Villa La Vigie, has opened its Sunshine Suite, a Belle Epoque tribute to la vie douce. It includes two bedrooms with ocean views, plus a second-level terrace with a Jacuzzi, also overlooking the ocean. For regal accommodations closer to the casino, SBM has renovated the palatial Winston Churchill Suite, occupying the top floor of the Hôtel de Paris and named in honor of the statesman who vacationed there.
