Hunter giant-clam reserve in the cerulean blue of Savusavu Bay.

During the two harvesting periods (April through May and September through October), guests can also observe the seeding of the oysters, as well as the extraction of the opulence inside—pearls of distinct earthy hues that are considered among the rarest in the world, due to the exceptionally clear and nutrient-rich local waters.

Further insight on maintaining the prized mollusk’s population and preservation of the surrounding marine ecosystem is available from Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort’s own full-time marine biologist, Johnny Singh.
