The world is already your oyster when vacationing in the South Pacific, but the experience now becomes more precious with the Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort, Fiji, pearl farm and snorkel tours. The exclusive eco-luxury enclave on the island of Vanua Levu has partnered with J. Hunter Pearls Fiji to present guests with the extraordinary opportunity to witness the pearl-culturing process, as well as to snorkel over the J. Hunter giant-clam reserve in the cerulean blue of Savusavu Bay.

During the two harvesting periods (April through May and September through October), guests can also observe the seeding of the oysters, as well as the extraction of the opulence inside—pearls of distinct earthy hues that are considered among the rarest in the world, due to the exceptionally clear and nutrient-rich local waters.

Further insight on maintaining the prized mollusk’s population and preservation of the surrounding marine ecosystem is available from Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort’s own full-time marine biologist, Johnny Singh. Active in outreach and education, Singh also leads numerous snorkeling and dive trips, as well as ecological endeavors that include coral farming and reef surveys—all part of the resort’s extensive selection of interactive programs designed to make any stay a treasured experience.
