Learn to Make Cava Wine in Spain’s Penedès Region with Hotel Arts Barcelona
Hotel Arts Barcelona, in collaboration with travel company Cava Emotions, is offering its guests an exclusive and interactive Cava Circuit through the Penedès Region from now through mid-November. The experience whisks guests off to a variety of wineries, giving them a chance to witness the harvesting process from start to finish.
The Cava Circuit begins with a vineyard tour of Mas Comtal—known for its organic viticulture—where guests will be given the opportunity to help trim and prune the vines and collect the grapes. From there, the fruit will then be added to vats where they will be pressed; a process in which the squished skins, pulp, and seeds create the “must.” The must is then fermented, yielding sparkling wine. Going one step further to ensure that the experience is truly an unforgettable one, guests will receive six complimentary bottles of the cava they helped harvest once it has had time to age.
Following the visit to Mas Comtal, the Cava Circuit will stop at Cava Guilera, a leader in enotourism initiatives; Finca Ca N’Estella, home to historical wine presses and a masía, a typical square Catalan country house, dating back to 1789; and Llopart Cava vineyards, which will serve (upon request) Original Gran Reserva 1887—the first cava vintage it ever produced—to tour participants. The trip comes full circle and ends at the two-Michelin-star Enoteca restaurant located in Hotel Arts Barcelona, where an array of seafood will be prepared by chef Paco Pérez and paired with a cava selections hailing from the visited vineyards.
Pricing for the Cava Circuit begins at $1,700 based on double occupancy and includes an overnight stay at Hotel Arts Barcelona and a special welcome package upon arrival. (hotelartsbarcelona.com)
