Sip Churchill’s Favorite Champagne at the Connaught Hotel in London
Located a short walk from Hyde Park and less than a mile from Buckingham Palace, the Connaught—one of Robb Report’s Top 100 hotels—in London’s Mayfair Village has opened the Champagne Room, a boutique lounge dedicated to the world’s finest bubbly. The menu offers more than 40 rare Champagne vintages, including Bollinger 1976 R.D., Krug 1995 Clos d’Ambonnay, and Pol Roger Vintage 1914 (priced at $24,600 per bottle), which was Winston Churchill’s favorite Champagne. Alongside the Champagnes are sommelier-selected wines and specialty spirits.
Sequestered from the rest of the hotel behind a velvet curtain, patrons of the Champagne Room can sip from Baccarat crystal glasses while dining upon amuse-bouches prepared by the executive chef, Romuald Feger. The lounge is located at the heart of the hotel yet offers a sense of exclusivity and seclusion. When the occasion calls for a more hands-on form of revelry than sipping Champagne, the lounge’s cocktail trolley gives guests the opportunity to master mixology with the Champagne Room’s experts. A more traditional bar experience can be enjoyed at the hotel’s exceptional Connaught Bar, while the Aman Spa at the Connaught beckons the indulgence of a morning massage—perhaps in recovery from the prior evening’s overindulgence.
