Those who flock to Aspen appreciate its mix of black-diamond skiing trails and five-star hotels, stunning mountain vistas and premier fashion boutiques. But the silver-mining town turned world-class ski resort also affords pursuits of the high-toned kind. The Aspen Music Festival and School, a classical-music concert series held annually, takes place in the jewel-box-like Harris Concert Hall designed by the architect Harry Teague. And the new Aspen Art Museum is the work of the famed Japanese architect Shigeru Ban. A town once most identifiable by its Victorian buildings and log-cabin decor, Aspen is seeing an avalanche of cutting-edge design.
