Sneak Peek: Amanoi, Vinh Hy Bay, Vietnam

Jennifer Ashton Ryan

Amanresorts has a knack for opening quietly luxurious hotels in incredible locations you haven’t heard of. Vietnam’s Vinh Hy Bay—home of the 31-room Amanoi that opened September 1—is no exception.

Why to Go: Vietnam is a fascinating country to visit for its history with the United States and for its own history. Travelers typically tour Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, dodging motorbikes between visits through historic quarters, local markets, and enchanting temples. Amanoi offers beach access and a reprieve from touring. It is adjacent to Nui Chua National Park, which protects one of the few Southeast Asian coastal habitats still in good condition. Vinh Hy Bay is warm and clear with, bright coral and tropical fish; Amanoi facilitates a range of water sports.

What to Expect: The resort is perched on a promontory at the edge of the national park, with breathtaking views of pristine islands and undeveloped coastline. The architecture of the central pavilion was inspired by a Vietnamese communal hall, and open, pavilion-type rooms (from $750) look out from the hill to the park, a lake, the East Sea, or Vinh Hy Bay.

How to Get There: Fly in from Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, or Danang in under two hours to Cam Ranh Airport. The 90-minute drive from the airport to Amanoi showcases a coastline that justifies the detour. (+94.11.203.5700, www.amanresorts.com)
