With the new Miami Beach Edition, Ian Schrager brings the dance party to Mid-Beach.

Why Go: The former Seville Hotel reopened in December as the Miami Beach Edition—the third in a collection of hotels by the hotelier Ian Schrager and Marriott. Thus, the Edition has the scale of a multinational hotel project and the attention to design details of a boutique hotel. A new structure was built behind the existing midcentury hotel to allow room for 26 residences, looking out from the top floors of both towers, and 294 hotel rooms (from $429). A premium is charged for an ocean view; city-view rooms miss the Atlantic but show sunsets over downtown Miami. Schrager and the Canadian design firm Yabu Pushelberg preserved many of the Seville’s distinctive 1950s details, including retro diving platforms by the pool and the cavernous lobby’s marble floor and gold-tiled columns.

What to Expect: A sea of potted palm trees and a marble pool table also furnish the lobby, which looks out to the beach. Rooms paneled in light oakwood feel casual and uncluttered, but are not nice enough that guests should stay there all day (or night). On the hotel’s Basement entertainment floor is a dance club, a bowling alley, and an ice-skating rink. A cofounder of Studio 54, Schrager still knows how to bring the party. Tropicale, an outdoor area that includes the Sundial restaurant, pools, and outdoor theatre, serves drinks poolside under the palm trees until midnight. Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten helms all food service at the Edition, from the 24-hour café to the fine-dining Matador Room, which serves Spanish, Caribbean, and South American flavors. Find a gallery wall of matador-themed photography in the Matador Bar.

How to Get There: Due east of Miami International Airport, the hotel is a 20-minute car ride from the airport. (786.257.4500, editionhotels.com)
