Sneak Peek: Rimba Jimbaran Bali, Indonesia

The luxury beach resort Ayana has opened a new enclave on its 190-acre property. Set back from the ocean, in the forest, Rimba Jimbaran Bali launched this month with contemporary rooms overlooking tropical gardens and swimming pools.

Why to Go: Access to two resorts in one. The high ground above Jimbaran Bay, fringed by some of Bali’s best private swimming beaches, has been called the “Beverly Hills of Bali” for its cliff-top villas and luxury resorts, including the Four Seasons. The new 20-acre Rimba shares its piece of privileged property with the oceanfront Ayana resort. Ayana opened in 1996 as a Ritz-Carlton and in 2009 became an independent resort. The spot is near the airport, yet is secluded and breathtakingly beautiful.

What to Expect: While Ayana’s 368 rooms and seven restaurants are perched 115 feet above Jimbaran Bay, Rimba is set back from the cliffs, overlooking an impressive 2.5-acre complex of constructed pools and manicured gardens. More contemporary than the Balinese interiors at Ayana, the public spaces and 282 rooms and suites at Rimba incorporate well-placed skylights and sustainable materials like reclaimed wood and recycled glass. The resort has four restaurants and bars and a cooking school.

How to Get There: Ayana and Rimba sit on the western shore of Bali’s southern peninsula, about halfway between the villages of Jimbaran and Uluwatu. The airport is just 7.4 miles away. Rimba guests can take a shuttle bus to access Ayana’s five pools, spa, and Indian Ocean views. (+62.361.846.8468, www.rimbajimbaran.com)
