Soho House Chicago keeps it cool in the Windy City.

Why Go: Soho House Chicago brings 40 new bedrooms to the Windy City’s West Loop neighborhood, an area not known for its hotels. West of the Kennedy Expressway, the district is reinventing warehouses and factories as art galleries and loft-style apartments attracting young families. Just off the main thoroughfare of Randolph Street (well-known for its restaurants), Soho House has opened in the former Chicago Belting Factory.

What to Expect: Soho House Chicago is first a private club, and then a hotel. Members and nonmembers alike can book the jewel-box rooms (from $240), which come in sizes Tiny, Small, Medium, and Medium Plus. There are no suites. Atmosphere and interior design are what set overnights at Soho House apart. (This is the fourth U.S. location for the U.K. group, which is popular with creative types.) In Chicago, exposed concrete complements vintage crystal chandeliers, velvet sofas, and a curated modern art collection. A lot of the furnishings are antiques, sourced from across the world. A house-like layout upstairs is for hotel guests and club members and includes a drawing room, club bar, and house kitchen. The ground-floor restaurants (one for pizza, one for rotisserie chicken) are there to draw in locals, and also include the Allis restaurant in the lobby, which serves small plates for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, including scones with clotted cream during afternoon tea. On the rooftop are another restaurant, a bar, and an outdoor pool with views of Chicago’s famous skyline. The gym includes a boxing ring, and there’s also a full-service Cowshed spa.

How to Get There: The drive from O’Hare is about 30 minutes without traffic. (312.521.8000, www.sohohousechicago.com)
