Sneak Peek: The St. Regis Istanbul
Down the street from Gucci and Cartier, the St. Regis opens among Istanbul’s most high-end shops.
Why Go: St. Regis loyalists will now find what they are looking for in Istanbul. The 118-room hotel that opens in April has a way, like many of its sibling properties, of creating an oasis of international standards in the midst of a big, overwhelming city. Floor-to-ceiling windows quietly frame Istanbul’s landmarks and the distant Bosporus. Guests look down from amid acres of marble that line the public spaces and hotel rooms (from $525), designed with the glamour of 1920s Turkey in mind. Supernova, a Lasvit chandelier in the lobby, incorporates 343 glass panels that hang overhead like a cloud.
What to Expect: The Demsa Group, which developed the new seven-story building, is also behind one of Turkey’s most celebrated art collections, Demsa Koleksiyon. The connection is apparent in the unusual attention paid to the selection of artworks featured throughout the hotel. Look for unique sculptures in entryways and on beside tables. Among several specialty accommodations is the Bentley Suite, equipped with a Bentley-leather sofa and a rug design recalling the Continental GT’s grille. The first Spago in Turkey crowns the building, boasting an outdoor lounge with expansive views. Iridium Spa has seven treatment rooms, indoor pools, and—because this is Istanbul, after all—a hammam.
How to Get There: Istanbul Ataturk Airport is a 45-minute drive from the hotel. (thestregisistanbul.com)
