After nearly a decade-long restoration, the Falaknuma Palace opened as a Taj hotel in Hyderabad, India, on November 1. Built in 1884, Taj Falaknuma Palace (Falaknuma translates to “Mirror of the Sky”) sits atop a 2,000-foot-high hill and is surrounded by 32 acres of Mughal-, Rajasthani-, and Japanese-style gardens. It features 60 refurbished guest rooms and suites, and many of its original furnishings, including Venetian chandeliers and a Windsor Castle look-alike library that houses one of India’s finest collections of Holy Qurans. Amenities include the Jiva Spa, an outdoor pool, and a hookah room. High tea is served daily, as is authentic Hyderabadi and Italian cuisine. (91.40.24388888, www.tajhotels.com)
