Sneak Peek: Watch Hill Inn, Watch Hill Village, R.I.

Configured for longer stays, the waterfront Watch Hill Inn opens in a favorite Rhode Island resort town.

Why Go: Victorian-era mansions surrounded by manicured hedges and expansive lawns are a signature of Watch Hill Village in Rhode Island, as are the red-roofed lighthouse and historic children’s carousel. The quaint coastal town supplies salty air and a slower pace to travelers driving in from New York and Boston. The area’s top hotel, Ocean House, was demolished and completely rebuilt in 2010 with replica Victorian exteriors. Just downhill of Ocean House is its newest sibling hotel, Watch Hill Inn.

What to Expect: Watch Hill Inn’s 18 one-, two-, and three-bedroom suites (from $555, including breakfast) come equipped with the long-stay conveniences of kitchens and private laundry. The hotel was long known as Narragansett House, until a 2007 renovation converted it into a condo complex. The rooms were taken down to the studs again in 2013 and Donna Simmons, of the Ocean House Design Group, put them back together with a coastal-casual scheme. For waterfront views, book a Harbor Terrace suite, the two-bedroom Eagles Nest, or the three-bedroom Penthouse. On-site amenities include a pantry stocked with snacks, a daily beer-and-wine hour, and in-room Apple TVs and iPads. The hotel shares a spa and restaurants with Ocean House.

How to Get There:The hotel is a three-hour drive or a 3-hour train ride from New York City; Boston is just 90 minutes by car. Find the nearest airport in Providence, R.I., about 45 minutes by car. (401.584.7400, www.watchhillinn.com)
