After months of renovations spearheaded by the Los Angeles design firm Smith & Firestone Associates, the Waldorf Astoria properties of the Arizona Biltmore and Southern California’ La Quinta Resort & Club have debuted revamped accommodations.

First opened in 1929 in Phoenix, the renovations at the Arizona Biltmore include improvements to its guest rooms, suites, spa, salon, and 15 poolside cabanas—each cabana now has an interior lounge area equipped with a flatscreen TV and full bathtub. The renovation, completed last fall, adhered to a soothing color palette of creams and pale greens matched with natural woods. Taking cues from Frank Lloyd Wright (who helped create the initial plans for the hotel), the designers added to guest rooms eye-catching geometric tile and carpet patterns reminiscent of Wright’s Biltmore Block motif (inspired by the trunks of palm trees), as well as wall coverings embossed with a metallic design by Wright.

Similar updates were applied to the 45-acre Spanish-style La Quinta Resort & Club near Palm Springs, Calif. Rooms are now outfitted with colorful custom tile work and wrought-iron accents, palomino-textured leather bed benches, Victorian-style chairs, and nailhead-embellished headboards. All 718 of the casitas and suites have been refurbished with earthy desert tones. The custom Starlight Casitas now feature flatscreen TVs and upgraded outdoor fireplaces. (waldorfastoria.com)
