Best Of The Best 2006: Flexible Flight

<< Back to Robb Report, Best of the Best

We don’t sell just charter service,” says Blue Star Jets CEO Ricky Sitomer. “We sell flexibility. We work for our clients, not the plane owners, and strive to give them every possible option for their changing needs.” The strategy appears to be working. Since Blue Star’s inception in 2001, it has grown to a 300-person operation that offers access to more than 4,000 aircraft worldwide.

Many jet charter clubs and brokers now offer debit-card arrangements in which flying costs are deducted from an initial deposit, but Blue Star’s SkyCard affords an extra degree of choice by accepting five deposit levels: $50,000, $100,000, $250,000, $500,000, and $1 million. Jets range from the light Beechjet 400A, priced at around $2,000 per hour, to the wide-body Boeing Business Jet, priced at around $12,000 per hour. The company commits to having jets available on four hours’ notice.
