Cirrus Design, maker of the impressive SR20 and SR22 piston-driven aircraft, has revealed more details about its upcoming jet. The company recently announced that “the-jet” by Cirrus (www.cirrusdesign.com) probably will fly for the first time next year and reach customers in 2010 or 2011. A mock-up (pictured above) shows that the roughly $1 million aircraft will be 30 feet long and spacious enough to accommodate five people while offering them plenty of legroom. (The cabin can be modified to fit seven.) The company has chosen a V shape for the carbon-fiber plane’s tail to give the single, top-mounted turbofan engine an unobstructed line of thrust. Cirrus says that the jet will have a range of about 1,150 miles when cruising at 345 mph. . . . Jet Airways (www.jetairways.com), India’s largest privately owned airline, has begun daily service between Newark, N.J., and Mumbai with new Boeing 777s designed to pamper long-haul passengers. Each first-class cabin features an 83-inch bed, an oversize desk with e-mail access, a 23-inch flat-screen TV, and a wardrobe. Inaugural round-trip first-class fares range from about $8,400 to $10,000.
