Twin Otter Reborn

Up until now, anyone seeking a de Havilland Twin Otter turboprop airplane, which is renowned for its rugged versatility, would have to purchase a model 20 years or older. Fans of the airplane can now get a new edition: Canadian Viking Air Limited is building new copies of the venerable design, upgraded with modern technology to save weight while enhancing safety and performance. The Otter seats up to 19 and can be equipped with floats, skis, or tundra tires. The hardy airplane tolerates the most severe conditions, from the tropics to the poles, and short, rough runways are not a problem. Customer deliveries start this summer, and prices start at $3.925 million. (250.656.7227,
