Known for its clubby mood lighting and for its flight attendants in fire engine–red skirts, Virgin Atlantic soars above the commercial-aviation competition in the style department. The airline’s latest clubhouse, at New York’s JFK International Airport, is no exception, offering a boutique-hotel-like experience for Upper Class passengers.
The sleek, 10,000-square-foot JFK Clubhouse, which opened in March, features a full salon and spa, a brasserie serving Brooklyn Brewery ale pie and other local specialties, and a bar with signature cocktails including the Virgin Redhead (Champagne, gin, berry liqueur, and raspberries). Also on hand are various seating areas for working, reading, watching television, or simply relaxing before your flight.
The clubhouse launched as part of a $160 million program to develop Virgin’s Upper Class concept, which in April debuted a first-class cabin equipped with the world’s longest airplane bar and seats that recline into 7-foot-plus-long beds. The new cabin can be found on A330 models that fly between New York and London, with additional routes on the horizon. On the current route, passengers enjoy a new food and drink menu, expedited service through customs, and access to the Revivals Lounge at Heathrow, which pampers arriving guests with made-to-order breakfasts, showers, and clothes-pressing services.
