When the resurrected Maybach brand again went dormant in 2012, it left a void in the ultra-luxury segment. The Mercedes-Maybach S600 (mbusa.com), the flagship of a new Silver Star sub-brand, fills this void. Although its roughly $189,000 base price is about half that of the Maybach 57, the S600 incorporates more advanced technological and safety features, and it is equally luxurious.
The big sedan is based on the Mercedes-Benz S-Class platform, but it has an additional 6 inches of rear-seat legroom. Other (optional) features that will appeal to owner-passengers include two reclining rear seats with leg-rest extensions, a refrigerator that is accessible through the center console and stocked with two silver Champagne flutes, and a Burmester entertainment system.
Chauffeurs or owners who drive the car will appreciate the 6-liter biturbo V-12 engine’s 523 hp and 612 ft lbs of torque. The Magic Body Control suspension system, which smooths out road irregularities, will appeal to drivers and passengers alike.
