A plucky Birmingham, Ala., upstart is on track to deliver the next great American sport touring motorcycle. Engineered with assistance from automotive speed shop Pratt & Miller, the Motus MST and MST-R (www.motusmotorcycles.com) are case studies in American ingenuity. (The MST-R is the lighter, higher-performance model.) A cast-aluminum V-4 powerplant displaces 1,645 cc—or, as company president Lee Conn prefers to say, 100 cubic inches. The engine’s torque-heavy tug and throaty roar recall small-block American V-8s, while the bike’s ergonomics, wind protection, and capacious fuel tank will encourage hours of saddle time. Deliveries and pricing announcements are expected next year.
