FrontRunners: New and Improved

<< Back to Robb Report, Ferrari’s 612 Scalietti Supercoupe

By that same quirk of time that seems to improve spaghetti sauce and lost love, an initially competent automobile is typically much better the second time around. Such is the case with the new Jaguar X-Type sedan (www.jaguar.com), which has arrived after several years of what one British engineering executive described as “much beavering away in back rooms.”

More than 1,000 bits and burnishings (1,018 to be precise) have been changed or added by that beavering to make the car feel more like a Jaguar. The 227 hp, 3-liter X-Type is a pleasant sedan that hungers to be pushed. It may not have quite the snarl and punch of the rest of the family, but there is certainly enough feral feel in this little Jaguar to satisfy the tomcat in all of us.
