The Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder presents all the virtues of its coupe counterpart, wrapped as an audacious convertible rocket ship. The “LP560-4” badges on the Lamborghini Gallardo refer to the car’s mid-mounted V-10 engine, which puts out 560 metric horsepower to all four wheels–or 552 hp by American power measurements. The LP560-4’s lightweight suspension components render a 44-pound weight reduction (lightweight carbon-ceramic brakes are a $10,000 option) over the previous generation, but more serious drivers may find themselves happier behind the wheel of the limited-edition Gallardo LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni. As the first rear-wheel drive Lamborghini to leave the factory for roughly 20 years, the Balboni-edition Gallardo was designed as a namesake for the brand’s most loyal (and recently retired) factory worker and test driver and will be limited to a production run of 250. And if that still seems a bit too tame, then the Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera should be enough to whet the appetite of those who constantly hunger for more power.
Pros: Comfortable enough to be considered a daily driver; fast enough to go head-to-head with the best.
Cons: Doesn’t come with the trademark Lamborghini scissor doors.
