The New Vancouver Island Motorsport Circuit Is in Full Gear

The members-only track and facility comprise the only year-round playground of its kind in Canada…

High-performance driving devotees have a new mecca with this month’s opening of the Vancouver Island Motorsport Circuit on its eponymous isle in British Columbia, Canada. Designed by legendary course designer and Formula1 racer Hermann Tilke and his team at Tilke Engineers & Architects, the 1.4-mile circuit encompasses nearly 47 acres and is capable of up to five track configurations. Drivers are challenged by 19 corners (12 right-hand and seven left-hand turns), a maximum incline of 11.5 percent, and downhill slopes with up to a 12-percent grade. And for off-road aficionados, a .6-mile obstacle route lies adjacent. With access via an exclusive membership club, the top-tier testing ground also offers four pit garages and a 15,000-square-foot clubhouse comprising a lounge and restaurant, multiple classrooms, a presentation center, an observation deck (with a 180-degree view of the action), and parking provisions that include a helipad. Members who want the option of a truly turn-key experience can avail themselves of the on-site vehicle storage center, maintenance facility, and car concierge to ensure that their supercharged chariots are ready to roll when they arrive. And for anyone looking to rev up their racing experience, a team of in-house instructors will steer them through progressive tutorials and offer feedback after reviewing runs and recorded metrics in a 14-screen control room.

Individual membership to the only circuit open year-round in Canada starts at about $37,500 for the initiation fee (good for 25 years plus annual dues) and allows up to 20 track days per month. Those with the pole position on privileges, however, are Club 30 members, who have unlimited access for life at an initial cost of approximately $156,500 (plus annual dues). Family and corporate packages also available. (islandmotorsportcircuit.com)
