More than just a two-man submersible, the Deep Flight Aviator (see “Wet Jet Set“), a 22-foot vessel that can dive to 1,500 feet, represents a unique travel opportunity: a chance to visit regions where no one else has ventured. The winged Aviator resembles a high-performance plane, with thrusters that propel the submersible to a top speed of 10 mph. An acrylic pod allows for clear viewing of the surroundings, and lights can be mounted on the Aviator to illuminate the mysteries of the deep.
Before you can claim the Aviator, Deep Flight Submersibles, the company that builds it, will require you to attend its three-day Sub Sea Aviation School. Previous sessions have been held in the Bahamas and in Mexico’s Sea of Cortés.
The Aviator, which weighs 4,300 pounds, can be transported via plane or helicopter, and it can be mounted like a tender on a megayacht.
Price: Starting at $1.7 million, plus the $15,000 fee to attend the three-day Sub Sea Aviation School.
