21 Ultimate Gifts: Magnificent, Indeed

<< Back to Robb Report, The 20th Annual Ultimate Gift Guide

The lure of the open sea is difficult to resist, especially when you have a spectacular siren such as the Magnifica III beckoning you. When Italian yacht builder CRN completes the 150-footer in June 2004, it will bear a strong family resemblance to the Magnifica II, a sister ship pictured here. The steel and aluminum vessel will have a range of 3,565 miles and carry as many as 10 passengers and eight crew members in grand style. The two diesel-powered Caterpillar 3512 DITA SWAC engines will propel it to a cruising speed of 16 mph and a top speed of 19 mph.

The Magnifica III will provide several cozy indoor and outdoor settings. The main salon will serve as an ideal place to gather and watch movies on a large plasma screen. Adjacent to it will be the interior dining room, which will seat as many as 10. However, if you wish to dine alfresco, you and your guests can gather in an aft area accommodating 10 diners under the shadow of the upper deck. The sky lounge on the upper deck will be a furnished den with an entertainment center and panoramic views. Aft, you will find a comfortable outdoor sitting area, and forward will be a sunbathing spot.

Because the navigational equipment will be concentrated on the upper deck, the sundeck will be devoted to the pleasure of you and your guests. It will feature another sheltered dining area beneath the radar arch, a private sunbathing area, sofas, a bar, a grill, and a Jacuzzi. A system of dumbwaiters connected to the bars on the various decks will make it easy to transport meals and snacks from the galley on the main deck.

The spacious owner’s cabin will feature a full-beam master bedroom, a large master bathroom with a whirlpool tub, and another room that can serve as an office or a children’s room. The guest quarters, located on the lower deck, will include a full-beam VIP aft cabin, two twin cabins, and a double cabin with two showers. Each cabin will have its own entertainment center and bathroom. The captain’s cabin will be located next to the wheelhouse on the upper deck, and four twin cabins will house the crew on the main deck.

The galley will be equipped with appliances such as a Sub-Zero refrigerator and a Viking stove. Adjacent to the galley will be a large walk-in freezer that can hold a generous amount of groceries for longer trips. Different areas of the cold room can be maintained at different temperatures, ensuring that the tiramisu stays firm and the fresh oranges do not freeze. The garage can hold two tenders that can seat from seven to eight people apiece.

The interior design will sport a distinctively Italian sensibility, replete with exotic woods, marble in your master bathroom, and leather-upholstered furniture throughout.

Price: Starting at $22.7 million.
