Partnering two Italian powerhouses, the 279-foot Fincantieri Ottantacinque yacht concept designed by Pininfarina is sure to be a modern maritime masterpiece when built. Named after the Italian word for 85 (its length in meters), the luxury concept combines Fincantieri’s 230 years of experience (having built over 7,000 boats) and Pininfarina’s flair for gracing functionality with sophisticated style—an unmistakable aesthetic that permeates all five decks of the steel-hull yacht.
Inset on the main deck like shimmering sapphires, identical twin pools will surround a raised, oversize daybed. Fit with adjustable bottoms, the pools can be set to a range of depths or be brought flush to the surface for over 1,700 square feet of additional deck space when entertaining. An outdoor dining and lounge area farther forward leads to the main saloon. Inside, a bar —accompanied by a baby grand piano—and large dining table will flank a vast and lavishly appointed central lounge that can also serve as cinema space. On the lower level, guests can congregate at another bar or immerse themselves in relaxation at the spa, diffusely illuminated from above by the glass-bottom pools. At anchor, the transom and four side platforms will lower to form over 1,800 square feet of beach club with easy access to the water.
A deck devoted to the owner will include an infinity pool and veranda located aft, while at the bow, a private dining area, lounge space, and hot tub are promised. Guests onboard can expect deluxe accommodations in six cabins, with an additional 11 cabins for the 19 staff and crew. The bridge deck will be outfitted with a helipad to expedite arrivals and departures. Travel between decks is facilitated by an elevator and spiral staircase.
Plans for propulsion and maneuverability currently call for two diesel engines with fixed propellers, bow and stern thrusters, nonretractable fin stabilizers for roll control, and a dynamic positioning system for accurate anchoring. The yacht should have a maximum speed of 18 knots and a range—cruising at 12 knots—of 6,000 nautical miles. The Ottantacinque yacht concept was announced by Fincantieri on September 23 at the Monaco Yacht Show. (pininfarina.com; fincantieriyachts.com)
