FrontRunners: Lighten Up

Sanlorenzo 40 Alloy

At 131 feet long, the new Sanlorenzo 40 Alloy (www.sanlorenzoyacht.com) would have been slowed by a hull made of fiberglass. So the Italian shipyard Sanlorenzo—known for its fiberglass hulls—used aluminum for the 40 Alloy. The yacht’s lightweight construction enables it to reach a speed of 28 knots, all while housing amenities that can include a Turkish bath and hydro-massager in the owner’s washroom and adjustable sunbathing platforms on the lower deck.
