FrontRunners: Quiet Cruiser

The Italian yachting classification and certification agency Registro Italiano Navale recently awarded the Admiral Tecnomar Impero 40 ( its best noise and vibration ratings ever. When the vessel is traveling at a cruising speed of 16 knots, its advanced insulation keeps the noise level in the master cabin to just 49 dB, which is quieter than a normal conversation. Vibrations are about one-tenth of the average level for boats traveling at that speed. The veteran naval architect Luca Dini penned the aggressive-looking design of the $20.3 million all-aluminum, semi-displacement 131-footer. Admiral Tecnomar, an Italian shipyard, delivered the first example of the Impero 40, christened Cacos V, in July.

The interior of Cacos V features black leather floors and macassar furniture throughout. The yacht sleeps 11 guests in five cabins, each of which has a different design. The full-beam master suite has a minimalist design, an oversize bed, and two bathrooms separated by an enormous shower.
