Parmigiani Fleurier Collaborates on New Versions of Its Tonda Watch Line

John Lyon

Recently, Parmigiani Fleurier teamed up with the Italian luxury brands Pomellato and Luisa Via Roma to create new additions for its Tonda line of men’s and women’s wristwatches. The resulting six timepieces all feature visual cues inspired by the corresponding company’s design vocabulary.

The collaboration between Parmigiani and the Milanese jeweler Pomellato yielded four watches in two different styles. Three of these watches are equipped with a dial inspired by the patterns of Pomellato’s Arabesque collection, which features gold pieces carved with intricate floral designs. The pattern that appears on the dial is created by applying a protective coating in the shape of the desired design and then sandblasting it; the unprotected sections take on a darker, rougher texture, while the protected areas remain smooth and luminescent. The fourth watch created with Pomellato does not feature the Arabesque pattern but is instead inspired by the company’s Capri collection. Its rich blue dial is created from a single large piece of turquoise that is meant to evoke the color of the Mediterranean Sea.

Parmigiani also created two new versions of the Tonda with the luxury retailer Luisa Via Roma: the Tonda Métrographe for men ($15,400) and the Tonda Métropolitaine for women ($14,600). Both watches are equipped with a captivating dial featuring a triangular pattern that evokes not only the appearance of chevron-braided leather but also the triangle in the Luisa Via Roma logo. Parmigiani’s watchmakers create these contrasting triangles by using a combination of galvanic and brushing treatments. The women’s version of the watch sports a pink dial and a bezel set with diamonds, while the men’s version has a blue dial and includes a chronograph function. (www.parmigiani.ch)
