Dinner-Jacket Redux

Christina Garofalo

When the occasion calls for black-tie dress, men have a wide array of stylish options this season that make it fun to get dressed up and express their individuality. For fall, it’s all about exaggerated lapels, playful prints, pops of color, and richly colored velvet. Here are some of our favorite evening ensembles.

Made with a tartan wool fabric from Holland and Sherry, Ascot Chang’s plaid dinner jacket swaps out traditional grosgrain lapels in favor of velvet. Justin Chang, the brand’s business-development manager, suggests wearing it with dark denim jeans for a more youthful, edgy look. ($3,225; www.ascotchang.com)

Louis Vuitton accented its superbly cut blue silk evening jacket with its signature LV monogram. ($3,675; www.louisvuitton.com)

Gucci embellished its black silk jacket with a botanical print that echoes chinoiserie. ($2,820; www.gucci.com)

Etro unveiled a series of richly colored velvet dinner jackets, such as this forest-green model with grosgrain piping and a whimsical lining. ($1,328; www.etro.com)
