Portuguese Jewelry-Enhanced Furniture

Jorge Arango

There’s a natural flirtatiousness to the furniture of Janet Morais, a New York–born interior designer and brand manager who established Koket—on the strength of her nickname, “Janette la coquette”—last year in Manassas, Va. While many of the pieces in her new Guilty Pleasures collection have Deco roots, they also nod deeply to the world of jewelry design. In fact, Morais draws upon both master woodworkers and jewelers to produce the line, which is fabricated in Portugal. The four-panel Euphoria room screen ($4,760), for instance, pairs ebony veneers with brass butterflies that flutter across it. The Mandy demilune stool ($2,160), available in either polished brass or stainless steel with a velvet seat, is based on a cuff bracelet. The Orchidea console’s Deco shape ($3,720) gets a modish tweak with polished brass pulls. And the Enigma tub chair ($2,860) is raised on cast bronze feet. All the pieces are available in ebony veneer or black lacquer.  (703.369.3324, info@bykoket.com, www.bykoket.com)
