Zero Halliburton Brings Its Spy Chic to Manhattan

Gillian Telling

Zero Halliburton, the brand known for its sturdy aluminum briefcases, has opened a flagship store on Madison Avenue in midtown Manhattan. The 1,600-square-foot space is being used as a testing ground for new collections; it also highlights the company’s remarkable history with displays of significant products and achievements, such a vignette of Zero Halliburton luggage that was used during an Apollo space mission to transport moon rocks back to Earth.

The company was founded in the 1930s by Erle P. Halliburton (also the founder of the oil-field-services company Halliburton), with a line of aluminum cases meant to be durable travel bags that could handle being tossed around in a pickup truck as Halliburton rode the rough roads of the Texas oil fields. The company now carries a full line of indestructible luggage, and the cases have been adapted for innumerable special purposes, such as carrying the U.S. nuclear codes for the president, should they ever be needed.
