2010 Luxury Preview: Green Machine

Bailey S. Barnard

Next summer, the Italian yacht builder Pershing will launch the first boat in its 108-foot series. The Pershing 108 features an efficient, eco-friendly split-engine design that will let a captain draw propulsion from one, two, or all three of its 1,815-kilowatt MTU diesels. With only the center engine engaged, the 108 will use minimal fuel and top out at 11 knots. Employing all three engines simultaneously, the boat will use more fuel but will have a top speed of 41 knots. In addition to its sophisticated engine design, the 108 has a sleek exterior and a host of features inside (including a service elevator that rises from the galley to the upper sundeck for swift delivery of food and beverages). And the 108’s decor, with Poltrona Frau furniture and Canaletto walnut detailing, gives it an elegance that promises to make your fellow boaters green with envy.
