FrontRunners: Ultimate Pedaling Machine

Fluto Shinzawa

Proving that good things do indeed come in small packages, BMW’s Q6.S mountain bike (www.bmwusa.com) doesn’t require an X5 SUV to transport it from the garage to the great outdoors; in less than a minute and without any tools, you can remove the 27-speeder’s wheels, fold the frame, and tuck the bike into the trunk of a Z8. The wheels and folded frame also fit into an over-the-shoulder carrier bag.

The Q6.S—priced from $3,995, made of aluminum, and weighing just 29 pounds—features the same type of suspension found on BMW motorcycles. The bike’s Telelever front-wheel fork cushions rides over rocks and roots and allows for stable braking, preventing the rider from pitching forward during sudden stops.
