Best of the Best 2013: Domestic White Wines: TOR 2010 Chardonnay Sonoma Valley Durrell Vineyard

<< Back to Robb Report, 25th Annual Best of the Best

Over the course of the last four decades, Tor Kenward has become something of an institution in the Napa Valley, having worked closely with the master winemaker Ed Sbragia in developing and refining Beringer Vineyards’ Private Reserve program, which draws from some of the finest vineyard sites throughout the region. Kenward’s trained eye and familiarity with the soils and microclimates in the Napa and Sonoma Counties proved invaluable assets when he and his wife, Susan, launched their own label, which crafts wines from some of California’s most impeccable sites. The TOR 2010 Chardonnay Sonoma Valley Durrell Vineyard (www.torwines.com, $54) is sourced from one of these properties, which has supplied fruit to such esteemed labels as Kistler, Loring, and Patz & Hall. Kenward’s expression of this vineyard is a nectar-like white that spreads its flavors of candied lemon, tangerine, toasted almond, and honey nougat over one’s grateful palate.
