Best of the Best 2013: Electronics: Digital Audio: McIntosh McAire

<< Back to Robb Report, June 2013

Compact music docks are rarely used for anything but background music, but the McIntosh McAire (607.723.3512, www.mcintoshlabs.com) has the power and precision to take center stage. The $3,000 wireless audio system uses onboard digital amplification to power a pair of the same titanium dome tweeters and midrange drivers found in the company’s reference XRT2K floor-standing loudspeakers, along with dual 4-inch down-firing woofers located beneath the unit. The McAire offers wireless playback of any Apple Airplay–enabled device; back-panel Ethernet, USB, and RCA inputs allow for connection with a home network’s music library and external analog audio sources.
