Best of the Best 2013: Megayachts: Hanseatic Marine Smeralda

  • Bailey S. Barnard

Hanseatic Marine’s Smeralda (+61.8.9437.0570, www.hanseaticmarine.eu) is the largest yacht ever built in Australia. Delivered last June, the sleek 253-foot vessel features an aluminum hull and superstructure by the Monaco-based designer Espen Oeino. Smeralda’s interior, designed by the German firm Vain Interiors, accommodates 22 guests and 16 crew members. The yacht’s simple and tasteful interior design, with walnut wall paneling and light- and cream-colored stones and leathers, creates a welcoming ambience. Cabins include an owner’s suite that encompasses the yacht’s upper deck. The back quarter of Smeralda is dedicated almost entirely to exterior deck space. A door at the stern opens to turn an already sizable swim platform into an enormous teak-clad beach club, which includes a massage room, a sauna, and a beauty salon. The top deck features an eight-person hot tub, a huge sun pad, and a full wet bar. Smeralda, which has a range of 4,500 nautical miles, is equipped with a slew of toys and tenders, and a foredeck helipad.
