Best of the Best 2013: Production Boats: Fairline Targa 62 Gran Turismo

  • Danielle Cutler

October’s Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show saw the U.S. debut of the Fairline Targa 62 Gran Turismo (+44.1832.273661, www.fairline.com), a sporty new cruiser from the 46-year-old British builder. Starting at a little under $2 million, the Targa 62 GT can reach a top speed of 34 knots thanks to twin Volvo Penta engines (a MAN V8 1200 shaft motor is optional). The 62-footer’s deckhouse features a retractable sunroof, huge windows, and an aft glass door that can be opened fully to the elements. Outdoor lounging areas include sun pads forward and aft and a shaded dining-and-seating area just aft of the deckhouse. A teak swim platform affords easy water access, and a garage can stow two small tenders and other water toys. Below the wide-open main deck, which features a sunken midlevel galley, are the three lower-deck guest quarters—an en suite master cabin at the bow and the guest and VIP cabins farther aft. In total, the Targa 62 GT sleeps as many as seven guests, and Fairline offers the option of a crew cabin instead of a tender garage.
